![]() ![]() I may have been a little sad when I had to return Donkey Kong Country 3 to the rental store, but I'm so happy that I made this special purchase on ebay. As a Christian, I feel I must give God the credit when I am provided with oppurtunities to revisit fond memories from my past. This was my introduction to the world of Donkey Kong Country, and I remembered it: from July 1997 to July 2009. Also, Dixie and Kiddy Kong were so cute, and I had so much fun, that it helped me cope with the loss. (My mom wanted me to have a couple of games to play to keep me happy.) I only had the games for about three days, so I hardly made any progress, but I remembered the music almost note for note, because at the time, it was very comforting. I now have the complete trilogy for BOTH Game Boy Advance and Super Nintendo! Interestingly, about twelve years ago, I rented this game as well as Super Mario World (which I already owned), while I was on a two-week trip to visit my Grandfather who was dying of cancer. I bought Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble to complete my Donkey Kong Country Player's Choice Edition Set. It looks like new! The booklet is in PERFECT condition! Bananas sometimes point the way, balloons and KONG Letters give you extra lives, and coins give you bonus points, let you play Swanky's games, and help you pay for items. ![]() Treasures and items are important as well. You'll find many other kinds of barrels as you go. Star Barrels act as save points, TNT Barrels explode when thrown, Bonus Barrels let you play bonus round games, and Invincibility Barrels let you gain temporary invincibility. In Donkey Kong Country 3, as in the first two games in the series, barrels play a significant role in the action. Enemies you must defeat include: the springy tailed Re-Koil Nibbla, the hungry fish Buzz the bee Sneek, the sneaky rat the coin-protecting alligator named Koin Bristels, the rolling hedgehog and Swoopy, the sharp-beaked bird. Throughout this epic game, you'll find animal friends that you can ride, such as Enguarde the Swordfish, Squawks the Parrot, and Squitter the Spider. When you are Dixie, you can throw Kiddy and steer him to drop down fragile holes. To enable you to reach places high places, you can throw Dixie when controlling Kiddy. Both characters can swim, run, jump, swing, throw barrels, climb, and ride vehicles, such as Funky's hovercraft, which can be used to explore further sections of the map. Also, he can skim across water and power roll into bad guys. Kiddy's main asset is his strength: he can reveal hidden areas by breaking down doors and smashing the ground. Dixie's primary strengths involve her pony tail, which enables her to form a Helicopter Spin, which can be used to whip enemies or make incredibly long leaps. Also new to this series are Banana Birds, which help you save your progress.Īs you progress through this game's many exotic tropical worlds, you (or you and a friend alternating) will control both Dixie and Kiddy Kong. There are 13 of these helpful bears throughout the game, including Blunder, who gives out secrets Barter, who swaps items Barnacle, who runs the gift shop and Benny and Bjorn, twins who run the ski lifts on the mountains. Donkey Kong Country 3 plays very much like the first two games in the series, but there are some new features, namely the Brothers Bear. Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong are off to find the missing Donkey and Diddy, who disappeared while celebrating their victory over King K.In Donkey Kong Country Returns players can team up as Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong, in order to complete a fun-filled series of challenges, puzzles and tasks to reclaim Donkey Kongs stolen banana stash. This also depends on your childhood allegiances - did you go Sega or Nintendo? Just for you, Metacritic!ĭonkey Kong Country Returns isa lush, vibrant re-imagining of the DKC franchise, but a barrage of cheap deaths, uneven difficulty and iffy motion controls keep itfrom matchingRetro Studios'previous amazing work with Metroid More info Genre And even though Sonic 4 isn’t “done,” we can assume Episode II won’t be drastically different. If I personally had to pick a favorite, it’d be DKCR for having a few fewer cheap deaths and (comparatively) much better boss fights. 3 added a world map and the famous Tanooki Suit, Super Mario Land 3 nonchalantly swapped Mario for his arch-rival Wario, and Starfy's third adventure saw him graciously. Both are valiant throwbacks to classic ‘90s titles, yet both suffer from misremembering what made their originals such mainstream successes. Sonic 4: Episode I?Yes, in this reviewer’s eyes. ![]()
